So how can people work with you, Hamish,to get the absolute best and be that wise person and learn from your mistakes? How can that work?First of all Hamish loves doing it and has done the ten years of the school of hard knocks, as it were, successes and failures. So there is a lot of stuff that you kind of realise or don’t know. I don’t know what I know sometimes, like that tacit knowledge is there. But for companies that I work with, companies that qualify, because I am only interested in working with business owners who are actually committed to a change and willing to learn. Half the people I meet I choose not to work with because it is not a good fit. And also I enjoy my work and I Want to work with people that get things done and that have fun in the process. Also, some businesses just aren’t going to work, so I justdon’t go there. But once a client is on board, the first thing I do is dig deeper to find out where they really are at. In the initial meeting before they come on board I get a pretty good idea, but then I dig in deep. And it‘s a bit like trying to find that seam of gold, or strike oil and uncover it. And then I look at all the other information that they’ve got and then I come back with strategies and the action plan to get results fast. I’m about speed. There is a number of structural things that, yes, that can all happen but there is not point in starting out with excessive, navel gazing and creating a perfect plan that can take you four to six months. And I say, “Right, let’s get more money in the ban know” and then you actually have some money to fix those other problems down the track. So it’s people who are ready to get stuck in and start making more money. Accountants generally work with companies over a 6-12 month period, depending on the results they want. And it’s combination of me doing things for them in the end, and also teaching them how to do it, because I want people to learn how to do this so that when I’m not there they can continue on – plus other systems and templates that they get.The thing is often with the people I’m working with is that by the second month, they’re having the best month they’ve ever had.It’s because so many companies it is easy to spot what needs to be done. You’ve got to do something differently to get a different result.You’ve got to take the steps to get to where you want to get to.Basically get good at sales and marketing, because it doesn’t matter how good your product or service is, if you don’t have customers there, then that’s all irrelevant.Get good at that and, most importantly, really understand the lifetime value of each client. Build the heard, bring them in, fence them in, feed them well and keep out predators and milk them.
