Debunking Three SEO Myths

Search engine optimization or SEO is riddled with many different myths showing up from time to time. The myths are created when search engines change, requiring new ways to best utilize their service. With each change made by the search engines, the confusion and myths grow due to a lack of written rules for ranking. In order to make the most of a search engine, it is your job to stay updated to any changes made. The only way to do so is to test out various strategies to see what works best.

Unless it is a major component to your site design, it is acceptable to not use one. Another fallacy that many people fall for is that it is compulsory to have a Google Sitemap. The Sitemap is simply one of the many tools Google offers that you can use. You will not have need of a Google Sitemap at all, if you have built your site properly and made it friendly to the search engines. It definitely doesn’t cause any harm to your site and may help you get indexed quicker, but that’s about it. Your rankings in the SERPs will not be affected nor will your SEO efforts be aided by having it. Also make sure your design is according to the niche you’re targeting. For instance, if your niche market is bark off reviews, then try to include its elements in the design to make it more appealing to the target audience.

The subject of another myth is your site content. People think that they need a minimum number of words on their site to help boost their rank. Content should be evaluated by quality of information not word count. Wanting to optimize as many as 3 to 5 keywords was the source of this myth. Content should be about quality not quantity.

The length of your copy does not change the effectiveness of your content. You should not waste time trying to impress the search engines, especially if it ruins the meaning of your site. Good content is not determined by length so any length will work.

By studying other sites, you can find practices that do help with search engine optimization and use them for your own site. As search engines change their way of looking at sites, you need to adjust your site content – this is the only real way to optimize your search ranking. Let’s say you create a product about barkoff review, you see that it is underperforming, then you can quit it and make a better product in the same market. Just make sure you’re not sticking to it even after seeing that it’s not worth it.
